The infographics were made by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.compoundchem.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Compound Interest<\/a>, a platform to improve chemistry communication.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Nobel Prize in Physiology\/Medicine<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2018 was awarded jointly to James P. Allison and Tasuku Honjo &#8220;for their discovery of cancer therapy by inhibition of negative immune regulation.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Allison studied a protein that functions as a brake on the immune system. He realized the potential of releasing the brake and thereby unleashing our immune cells to attack tumors. He then developed this concept into a brand new approach for treating patients.<\/p>\n<p>In parallel, Tasuku Honjo discovered a protein on immune cells and revealed that it also operates as a brake, but with a different mechanism of action.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, Allison and Honjo showed how different strategies for inhibiting the brakes on the immune system can be used in the treatment of cancer.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8225\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.mindthegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/image_uploaded_froms_ios.jpg\" alt=\"image_uploaded_froms_ios\" width=\"850\" height=\"850\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Nobel Prize in Chemistry<\/strong><\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2018 was divided, one half awarded to Frances H. Arnold &#8220;for the directed evolution of enzymes&#8221;, the other half jointly to George P. Smith and Sir Gregory P.
