The scientific community holds a huge responsibility on that matter, and Nature, the scientific magazine, is taking this responsibility very seriously. To show an important &#8211; but potentially boring &#8211; historical review of the politics and conferences about global warming, Nature published a GRAPHIC NOVEL, called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/news\/the-fragile-framework-1.18861?WT.mc_id=TWT_NatureNews#\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Fragile Framework<\/a>, with the lead \u201cA <em>Nature <\/em>comic examines the 25-year quest for a climate treaty. Can nations unite to save Earth\u00b4s climate?\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mindthegraph.com\/flow-graphical-abstract\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5831 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.mindthegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/untitled-creation63724-300x120.png\" alt=\"Nature\u00b4s COP21 Comics\" width=\"300\" height=\"120\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mindthegraph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/untitled-creation63724-300x120.png 300w, https:\/\/mindthegraph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/untitled-creation63724-1024x410.png 1024w, https:\/\/mindthegraph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/untitled-creation63724.png 1500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The big thing here is that the graphic novel form makes it much less boring, more accessible to everybody and another important thing is that Nature made it open access, so you can read it online or you can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/polopoly_fs\/1.18861!\/menu\/main\/topColumns\/topLeftColumn\/pdf\/527427a.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">download the high resolution PDF<\/a>, for free.<br \/>\nYou may be thinking \u201cwhy to make topics about climate change more accessible in Nature, if only scientists read it and they already know about that?\u201d We can never forget that a molecular biologist may be as lay in global warming subjects as a lawyer or a priest, and there are some good journalists that use Nature as a source. This kind of journalist exist, believe me. They are just a few, but they do exist.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mindthegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/009.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4674 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.mindthegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/009-300x172.png\" alt=\"009\" width=\"300\" height=\"172\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mindthegraph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/009-300x172.png 300w, https:\/\/mindthegraph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/009.png 715w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The artist invited was Nick Sousanis, a post-doc who made his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hup.harvard.edu\/catalog.php?isbn=9780674744431\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">doctorial dissertation entirely in comic form<\/a>. Sousanis was not alone in this project. The co-author is Rich Monastersky, News Features Editor at <em>Nature<\/em>.<br \/>\nAbout this work, Sousanis spoke to <a href=\"http:\/\/naturegraphics.tumblr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nature Graphics<\/a>, a blog curated by the <em>Nature <\/em>art team. He answered the question \u201cDo words drive our thinking and framing of reality, or images? Which comes first?\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWords and pictures convey meaning in distinct ways. And I think for me, the comics that work best are the ones where the relationship between the two is part of the makeup of the work from the very beginning.
