Det finns en v\u00e4xande insikt om att havssk\u00f6ldpaddor \u00e4ter plast, men inga uppgifter har hittats som visar att plastintag p\u00e5verkar befolkningen p\u00e5 populationsniv\u00e5.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00d6ppet vatten \u00e4r en perfekt milj\u00f6 f\u00f6r sk\u00f6ldpaddor att utvecklas i eftersom rovdjuren \u00e4r minimala, vilket g\u00f6r detta till en perfekt milj\u00f6 f\u00f6r dem att utvecklas i. Sju karettsk\u00f6ldpaddor hittades p\u00e5 b\u00e5da kusterna, s\u00e5 urvalsstorleken var minimal.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plast f\u00f6rekom inte i n\u00e5gra karettsk\u00f6ldpaddor som hittades p\u00e5 n\u00e5gon av kusterna. Sk\u00f6ldpaddor fr\u00e5n Stilla havet var vanligtvis fyllda med fragment av h\u00e5rdplast, sannolikt fr\u00e5n en m\u00e4ngd olika f\u00f6rem\u00e5l tillverkade av m\u00e4nniskor, i motsats till plast fr\u00e5n Indiska oceanen, som fr\u00e4mst var fibrer fr\u00e5n fisken\u00e4t eller rep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>B\u00e5da oceanerna inneh\u00f6ll h\u00f6ga koncentrationer av polyeten, nylon och polypropen som sk\u00f6ldpaddorna fick i sig.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Det finns inget s\u00e4tt att fastst\u00e4lla k\u00e4llan till de fragment som hittats eftersom dessa polymerer anv\u00e4nds i s\u00e5 stor utstr\u00e4ckning i plastprodukter.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En betydande k\u00e4lla till marina f\u00f6roreningar n\u00e4ra vattnet kommer fr\u00e5n kasserade, demonterade och p\u00e5 annat s\u00e4tt nedskr\u00e4pade fiskeredskap (ALDFG), som vanligtvis best\u00e5r av plastfibrer. Partiklarnas storlek varierade med sk\u00f6ldpaddornas storlek, vanligtvis mellan 5 mm och 10 mm.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forskarna hoppas kunna unders\u00f6ka hur intag av plast p\u00e5verkar sk\u00f6ldpaddornas h\u00e4lsa och \u00f6verlevnad i n\u00e4sta steg av sin forskning.
