Ljudem s shizofrenijo se lahko zdi, da so izgubili stik z resni\u010dnostjo. Da bi razumeli razvoj shizofrenije, moramo govoriti o sinapti\u010dnem obrezovanju. V \u010dlanku iz revije Nature neuroscience pi\u0161e <sup>1<\/sup>, &#8220;<em>sinapti\u010dno obrezovanje je proces odstranjevanja sinaps, ki poteka od zgodnjega otro\u0161tva do zgodnje odraslosti.\"<\/em>&nbsp;Med razvojem mo\u017eganov vplivi iz okolja oblikujejo \u017eiv\u010dno vezje. Ta proces odpravlja odve\u010dne sinapse, ki so nastale med zgodnjim razvojem, in krepi preostale sinapse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Poleg tega je v skladu s hipotezo o \"sinapti\u010dnem obrezovanju\" prekomerno ali moteno sinapti\u010dno obrezovanje povezano z motnjo shizofrenije. To hipotezo je leta 1982 postavil psihiater Irwin Feinberg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Poleg tega so pred nekaj leti \u0161tudije slikanja \u010dlove\u0161kih mo\u017eganov in posmrtne \u0161tudije prinesle nove dokaze v podporo hipotezi o \"sinapti\u010dnem obrezovanju\". Carl Sellgren, Roy Perlis in sodelavci menijo, da ima lahko imunski sistem pomembno vlogo pri prekomernem obrezovanju sinaps.
