As pessoas com esquizofrenia podem parecer ter perdido o contato com a realidade. Para entender o desenvolvimento da esquizofrenia, precisamos falar sobre a poda sin\u00e1ptica. De acordo com um artigo da Nature neuroscience <sup>1<\/sup>, &#8220;<em>A poda sin\u00e1ptica \u00e9 o processo de elimina\u00e7\u00e3o da sinapse que ocorre durante a primeira inf\u00e2ncia at\u00e9 o in\u00edcio da vida adulta\".<\/em>&nbsp;\u00c0 medida que o c\u00e9rebro se desenvolve, as entradas ambientais moldam o circuito neural. Como c\u00e9lulas macrof\u00e1gicas residentes, elas atuam como a primeira e principal forma de defesa imunol\u00f3gica ativa no sistema nervoso central (SNC).
