O Dia Mundial da AIDS, ocorre todos os anos em 1 de dezembro desde 1988. \u00c9 um dia internacional para aumentar a conscientiza\u00e7\u00e3o sobre a AIDS causada pela infec\u00e7\u00e3o pelo HIV e para lembrar aqueles que morreram da doen\u00e7a. O Dia Mundial da AIDS \u00e9 uma das oito campanhas oficiais de sa\u00fade p\u00fablica mundial marcadas pela Organiza\u00e7\u00e3o Mundial da Sa\u00fade (OMS).<\/p>\n

\u00c9 importante ensinar \u00e0s pessoas sobre educa\u00e7\u00e3o sexual e a diferen\u00e7a entre HIV (v\u00edrus da imunodefici\u00eancia humana) e AIDS (s\u00edndrome de imunodefici\u00eancia adquirida). O HIV \u00e9 um retrov\u00edrus que causa a AIDS. O HIV ataca o sistema imunol\u00f3gico.<\/p>\n

Ao longo da doen\u00e7a, a carga viral aumenta constantemente e a imunodefici\u00eancia piora progressivamente (devido \u00e0 diminui\u00e7\u00e3o da contagem de CD4), fazendo com que o HIV\/AIDS se manifeste em etapas. A Organiza\u00e7\u00e3o Mundial da Sa\u00fade (OMS) classificou a doen\u00e7a HIV em 4 est\u00e1gios:<\/p>\n

Etapa I<\/strong> (tamb\u00e9m conhecida como infec\u00e7\u00e3o prim\u00e1ria pelo HIV): Nesta fase, a pessoa n\u00e3o tem nenhum sintoma e pode n\u00e3o estar ciente de que est\u00e1 infectada.
\nEtapa II<\/strong> (tamb\u00e9m conhecido como est\u00e1gio clinicamente assintom\u00e1tico): Este est\u00e1gio pode durar de 8 a 10 anos sem sintomas principais, exceto no caso de gl\u00e2ndulas inchadas (linfonodos), alguma perda de peso, ulcera\u00e7\u00e3o da boca e infec\u00e7\u00f5es leves da pele e das unhas.
\nEtapa III<\/strong> (tamb\u00e9m conhecido como infec\u00e7\u00e3o sintom\u00e1tica pelo HIV): Nesta fase, o sistema imunol\u00f3gico \u00e9 significativamente afetado e a pessoa infectada come\u00e7a agora a manifestar muitos sintomas, como perda de peso severa, diarr\u00e9ia cr\u00f4nica, febre persistente, tuberculose, infec\u00e7\u00f5es bacterianas graves (por exemplo, pneumonia e meningite).
\nEtapa IV<\/strong> (tamb\u00e9m conhecida como AIDS): O sistema imunol\u00f3gico est\u00e1 agora severamente danificado e os sintomas se tornam ainda mais graves. A pessoa est\u00e1 agora gravemente debilitada, tem infec\u00e7\u00f5es bacterianas graves e recorrentes. Al\u00e9m disso, o corpo desenvolve c\u00e2nceres como o Kaposi sarcoma, e outras infec\u00e7\u00f5es como a pneumonia por Pneumocystis carinii (PCP), toxoplasmose e encefalopatia HIV.<\/p>\n

Uma vez que o HIV est\u00e1 no sistema imunol\u00f3gico, ele se multiplica dentro das c\u00e9lulas CD4.
