Elk jaar krijgen bijna 800.000 mensen een nieuwe of terugkerende beroerte. Bovendien kan tot 80 procent van de beroertes worden voorkomen. Het is dus heel belangrijk om te weten hoe je een beroerte kunt voorkomen en wat de belangrijkste symptomen van een beroerte zijn. Het kan iedereen op elk moment overkomen. Het treedt op wanneer de bloedtoevoer naar een deel van de hersenen wordt afgesloten. Wanneer dit gebeurt, krijgen de hersencellen geen zuurstof meer en beginnen ze af te sterven. Het is belangrijk dat u op de mensen om u heen let en zo nodig hulp biedt.
