Het lijkt misschien een triviale vraag. Maar als we er rekening mee houden dat we tegenwoordig nauwelijks nog volledige papers lezen, ligt het antwoord misschien niet zo voor de hand.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mindthegraph.com\/good-infographic\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6402 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.mindthegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/14027r.jpg\" alt=\"Hoe mensen wetenschappelijke artikelen lezen\" width=\"552\" height=\"367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mindthegraph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/14027r.jpg 552w, https:\/\/mindthegraph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/14027r-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 552px) 100vw, 552px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We zijn vaak op zoek naar snelleestechnieken om de hoeveelheid informatie die we moeten verwerken te helpen overwinnen. Met dat in gedachten, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencemag.org\/careers\/2016\/03\/how-seriously-read-scientific-paper\">Science magazine deed een klein onderzoek<\/a> en vroeg wetenschappers op verschillende momenten in hun academische leven hoe zij wetenschappelijke artikelen lezen.<\/p>\n<p>Onder de antwoorden valt iets merkwaardigs op:<\/p>\n<p>\"(...) Ik begin met het lezen van de samenvatting. Dan sla ik de inleiding over en blader door het artikel naar <strong>kijk naar de cijfers<\/strong> (...)\" Jesse Shanahan, master kandidaat in astronomie aan de Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut.<\/p>\n<p>\"(...) Ik heb ook altijd <strong>kijken naar percelen\/figuren<\/strong>Cecilia Tubiana, wetenschapper aan het Max Planck Instituut voor Zonnestelselonderzoek in G\u00f6ttingen, Duitsland.<\/p>\n<p>\"(...) Ik denk dat <strong>de cijfers zijn het belangrijkste deel<\/strong> van de paper, omdat het abstract en de body van de paper kunnen worden gemanipuleerd en gevormd om een overtuigend verhaal te vertellen (...) Jeremy C. Borniger, doctoraal kandidaat in de neurowetenschappen aan de Ohio State University, Columbus<\/p>\n<p>\"(...) Ik vind vaak dat de <strong>de aanvullende cijfers bieden eigenlijk de meest merkwaardige en interessante resultaten<\/strong> (...)\" Gary McDowell, postdoctoraal medewerker ontwikkelingsbiologie aan de Tufts Universiteit in Medford, Massachusetts, en gastonderzoeker aan het Boston College.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mindthegraph.com\/good-infographic\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6401 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.mindthegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/phd050113s.gif\" alt=\"Hoe mensen wetenschappelijke artikelen lezen\" width=\"600\" height=\"260\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ondanks de persoonlijke keuzes van elke wetenschapper bij het lezen van een wetenschappelijk artikel, blijken cijfers, grafieken of plots belangrijk te zijn.<\/p>\n<p>We begrijpen waarom: visuele informatie is gemakkelijker en sneller te assimileren.<\/p>\n<p>Neem nu even de tijd om te bedenken hoeveel tijd en energie je investeert in dit deel van je paper. De meeste wetenschappers hebben niet de mogelijkheid om een geweldige infographic te maken.
