Maar het feit dat een virus zoveel schade kan aanrichten is voor veel gezinnen geen nieuws.<\/p>\n<p>Al tientallen jaren lopen zwangere vrouwen het risico besmet te raken met het cytomegalovirus (CMV). Ondanks alle gevolgen van een CMV-infectie en het feit dat het virus bekend is, is er nog steeds geen remedie noch investeringen om de verspreiding van dit virus te voorkomen.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mindthegraph.com\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6009 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.mindthegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/stop-cmv.jpg\" alt=\"stop cmv\" width=\"560\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mindthegraph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/stop-cmv.jpg 560w, https:\/\/mindthegraph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/stop-cmv-300x177.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In het begin van deze maand, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/news\/zika-raises-profile-of-more-common-birth-defect-virus-1.20199\">Nature website geplaatst<\/a> een kritiek op de aandacht die het Zika virus heeft getrokken. Vooral gezien de sociale vooringenomenheid die de Zika proliferatie heeft aangewakkerd.<\/p>\n<p>Het Zika-virus vormt uiteraard een grote bedreiging voor de volksgezondheid. Het CMV-virus is echter verwaarloosd, hoewel het vergelijkbare gevolgen en gevaren oplevert. Nature post nam niet het belang weg van het bespreken van de verspreiding van het Zika virus. Het zette alleen vraagtekens bij onze houding om ons veel zorgen te maken over een ziekte uit de \"derde wereld\", terwijl we soortgelijke problemen onder het tapijt hebben geveegd.<\/p>\n<p>Toch kunnen we zelfs op de donkerste momenten nog licht vinden. Persoonlijkheden die betrokken zijn bij de preventie van en het onderzoek naar CMV zien een sprankje hoop uit alle paniek die door het Zika-virus wordt veroorzaakt.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\"Geboorteafwijkingen staan niet hoog op de volksgezondheidsagenda. Zika is een kans.\" Stanley Plotkin, gepensioneerd wetenschapper die het huidige vaccin tegen rode hond ontwikkelde.<\/p>\n<p>\"Zika is een manier geworden om gesprekken te openen over CMV.\" Janelle Greenlee, medeoprichter van de CMV stichting.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>De discussie over het Zika-virus is zo breed dat andere studies over misvormingen bij baby's er hun voordeel mee kunnen doen. Het CMV-virus is nog steeds een groot probleem dat moet worden opgelost.
