Twee recente papers, samengevat een in vitro onderzoek en een kleinschalige klinische studie, waren voor Donald Trump voldoende om de FDA een nieuwe klinische indicatie voor hydroxychloroquine te laten afdwingen: verbetering van de symptomen van door het Coronavirus (Covid-19) aangetaste pati\u00ebnten.<\/p>\n

Dit is waarschijnlijk het snelste traject van een medicijn goedkeuringsproces in de moderne geschiedenis, en de president heeft blijkbaar gelijk. Verrassend voor een wereldleider die niet veel op heeft met wetenschap.<\/p>\n

Het eerste bewijs over hydroxychloroquine op het virus kwam van dit artikel gisteren gepubliceerd op Cell Discovery<\/a>Het is slechts in vitro, met alle beperkingen, maar het toont duidelijk het potentieel van het geneesmiddel om het virus te doden. Toen zij het document indienden waren er 80.000 gevallen bevestigd in China, waaronder 2946 sterfgevallen, en meer dan 10.566 bevestigde gevallen in 72 andere landen. Op dat moment was de grootste hoop gevestigd op een geneesmiddel genaamd remdesivir.<\/p>\n

Maar het grootste nieuws kwam van een kleinschalige klinische studie die een dag eerder was gepubliceerd. De titel is Hydroxychloroquine en azitromycine als behandeling van COVID-19: resultaten van een open-label niet-gerandomiseerde klinische studie en kan worden gedownload op de \"in press\" versie.<\/a><\/p>\n

In een studie met slechts 20 pati\u00ebnten toonden de auteurs aan dat hydroxychloroquine doeltreffend was tegen de besmetting met het coronavirus Covid-19. In feite verminderde het 75% van de ge\u00efnfecteerde personen in de periode van 6 dagen, wat geweldig is. Nog beter dan dat, de combinatie met azitromycine verbeterde de doeltreffendheid van de behandeling tot 95%.<\/p>\n

Gecombineerde therapie met hydrohychloroquine en azitromycine is doeltreffend tegen infecties met het coronavirus (Covid-19) bij menselijke pati\u00ebnten. De daling is dramatisch en brengt nieuwe hoop voor getroffen pati\u00ebnten.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

De behandeling verbeterde de symptomen en verminderde ook de virale belasting van de pati\u00ebnten. Het middel is eerder goedgekeurd voor malaria, wat betekent dat het als veilig wordt beschouwd. Het \"zuster\" medicijn chloroquine was minder effectief. Goed voor ons, want het is veel giftiger.<\/p>\n

De studie was niet gerandomiseerd en kleinschalig, maar het lijkt erop dat de epidemie in China is begonnen, maar dat de oplossing afkomstig is van een wereldwijde gemeenschap. De in vitro studie is eigenlijk Chinees, terwijl de klinische studie Europees is, meer bepaald uit Frankrijk. Interessant is dat de oorspronkelijke registratie van hydroxychloroquine afkomstig is van het Franse farmaceutische bedrijf Sanofi, en dat de recente klinische studie werd uitgevoerd in Marseille.
