Are you explaining science and complex scientific topics in an understandable way? It isn’t an easy task. If you want that your audience understand the main concept and get curious to learn more, you need to work on your communication skills. As a scientists we can be easily add a lot of scientific jargons and complex words to our presentations. However, the wrong language can create a gap between you and your audience.<\/p>\n

01. Kjenn publikummet ditt<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Det virker \u00e5penbart, men noen ganger glemmer vi hvordan vi skal snakke med andre enn forskere. Derfor tror kanskje folk flest at vitenskap er for vanskelig \u00e5 forst\u00e5, og at det bare er veldig smarte mennesker som kan gj\u00f8re det. Men vi vet at dette ikke stemmer. Vi m\u00e5 bare bli flinkere til \u00e5 kommunisere. Hvert publikum krever et annet spr\u00e5k. Ikke glem at det som er \u00e5penbart for deg, kan v\u00e6re ny informasjon for en annen person. S\u00e5 hvis du snakker med en person som ikke er forsker, m\u00e5 du ikke glemme \u00e5 forklare det grunnleggende og unng\u00e5 sjargong.<\/p>\n

Eksempel: DNA replikerer seg selv f\u00f8r det g\u00e5r inn i mitose.<\/p>\n

02. \"\u00e5 replikere\" betyr \u00e5 lage en kopi.<\/p>\n

03. \"f\u00f8r\" betyr f\u00f8r<\/p>\n

P\u00e5 samme m\u00e5te som biologien har ulike st\u00f8rrelsesskalaer, har ogs\u00e5 informasjon og innhold niv\u00e5er. Bryt innholdet og g\u00e5 dypere inn i det bare hvis det er mulig.<\/p>\n

02. Kjenn til n\u00f8kkelbegrepene dine og fremhev dem<\/strong><\/h3>\n

N\u00e5r vi snakker om et spennende emne, som vitenskap, kan vi tenke at alle detaljer er veldig viktige. Og hvis det handler om v\u00e5re data, v\u00e5rt arbeid, kan vi bli enda mer begeistret. Men vi m\u00e5 v\u00e6re i stand til \u00e5 oppsummere og identifisere den viktigste informasjonen i arbeidet v\u00e5rt. Hva m\u00e5 publikum huske p\u00e5? Folk kan ikke absorbere all informasjon, s\u00e5 hvis du fremhever alt, blir ingenting fremhevet.<\/p>\n

Choose the main information, highlight it and use a few steps and key concepts to explain it to your audience. If your talk or class possibilite that you use visual resources as slides or graphical abstracts, you can use images or charts to highlight the information. One way to do that is to broke down the visual into (1) the research question, (2) the experimental design, and (3) the expected results. Use colors, charts and illustrations to help solidify the concept.<\/p>\n
