It is always amazing to show the scientific work of our users. So, today I will present you the brazilian scientist Isis de Souza and her work with zika virus. Isis and her colleagues study the impact of early-life Zika virus infection in mices. She is also a mind the graph user and the winner presentation has visual resources from Mind the graph. Hva er zikaviruset?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Zikaviruset tilh\u00f8rer familien Flaviviridae. Denne gruppen omfatter flere sykdomsfremkallende virus. Det mest kjente er gulfeberviruset, typeviruset for familien og ogs\u00e5 \u00e5rsaken til familienavnet, ettersom ordet flavus betyr \"gul\" p\u00e5 latin. Andre flavivirus er West Nile-viruset, dengueviruset og det fl\u00e5ttb\u00e5rne encefalittviruset.<\/p>\n

Flaviviridae-familien har felles st\u00f8rrelse (40-65 nm) og virale konvolutter som dekker det beskyttende ikosaedriske nukleokapsidet. Ogs\u00e5 det genetiske materialet er RNA, og de vises i elektronmikroskopet.<\/p>\n

Recently, many researchers are studying the neurological disorders related to the congenital exposure to zika virus (ZIKV).<\/p>\n

Moreover, Congenital microcephaly is one of the most marked effects reported in ZIKV-infected newborns. Because of that, the research efforts are focus on understanding the mechanisms of ZIKV-induced congenital microcephaly.<\/p>\n

However, only 1 to 13% of exposed fetuses show physical malformations at birth. Besides that, there is a lack of information about the long-terms consequences of a perinatal infection.<\/p>\n

Hos mennesker er det mange kliniske tilstander forbundet med eksponering for zikaviruset som oppst\u00e5r m\u00e5neder eller \u00e5r etter f\u00f8dselen. S\u00e5 selv om barna ikke f\u00f8des med mikrocefali, kan de ha motoriske forstyrrelser, kortikal dysplasi relatert til kramper og andre nevrologiske lidelser.<\/p>\n

If\u00f8lge forfatterne har de \"infiserte nyf\u00f8dte villtypemus systemisk med ZIKV og utf\u00f8rte en langtidsoppf\u00f8lging av de atferdsmessige, nevropatologiske og molekyl\u00e6re konsekvensene av infeksjonen. Vi rapporterer kort- og langsiktige komplikasjoner etter ZIKV-infeksjon hos mus og viser at tidlig n\u00f8ytralisering av tumornekrosefaktor-\u03b1 (TNF-\u03b1) delvis forhindrer disse skadelige effektene. Funnene v\u00e5re viser at det er n\u00f8dvendig \u00e5 v\u00e6re spesielt oppmerksom p\u00e5 en potensiell byrde av nevropatologiske komplikasjoner hos barn og unge etter medf\u00f8dt eksponering for ZIKV, og antyder at tidlig hemming av nevroinflammasjon kan v\u00e6re en potensiell behandling for \u00e5 forebygge nevrologiske langtidsf\u00f8lger hos ZIKV-infiserte spedbarn.\"<\/em><\/p>\n

The “Pr\u00eamio Jovem Talento em Ci\u00eancias da Vida” or Young Talent Award in Life Sciences is promoted by the Brazilian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the GE Healthcare Life Sciences. A scientific committee chose five candidates to present their work at the Annual Congress, an event that connects professors and students from all over Latin America.<\/p>\n
