Det er viktig \u00e5 forst\u00e5 sykdomsmekanismene for \u00e5 kunne forbedre livskvaliteten til pasientene og finne en effektiv behandling. Til tross for enorme anstrengelser innen akademia og legemiddelindustrien finnes det i dag ingen effektive behandlinger. Alzheimers sykdom er den sjette st\u00f8rste d\u00f8ds\u00e5rsaken i USA og rammer 35 millioner mennesker over hele verden.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Infografikk om Alzheimers sykdom<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The majority of AD patients are elder subjects that commonly sufferfrom a variety of co-morbidities. Tau kommer ikke inn i nevronkjernen, noe som resulterer i DNA-skader. Antallet mitokondrier og antallet presynaptiske vesikler reduseres, noe som f\u00f8rer til synaptisk tap. Dette tapet skyldes ogs\u00e5 at tau kommer inn i dendritter og postsynaptiske omr\u00e5der.
