We measure success in Science by the amount of papers we have published. Thus, the race to get our research done starts.<\/p>\n<p>Vi skj\u00f8nner hvorfor det er s\u00e5 viktig \u00e5 f\u00e5 forskningen v\u00e5r publisert. For \u00e5 komme dit er det en lang vei \u00e5 gj\u00f8re eksperimenter og samle inn data - for ikke \u00e5 snakke om \u00e5 g\u00e5 gjennom revisorer og tidsskriftredakt\u00f8rer. Til \u00e5 begynne med betydde en publisert artikkel:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Et godt sp\u00f8rsm\u00e5l<\/li>\n<li>Godt utformede eksperimenter<\/li>\n<li>Relevante data for sp\u00f8rsm\u00e5let<\/li>\n<li>Analyse og diskusjon som ga nye innfallsvinkler til studieemnet.<\/li>\n<li>Et bidrag til vitenskapen og verden vi lever i<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Man trenger ikke v\u00e6re noe geni for \u00e5 skj\u00f8nne at det ikke alltid er det som skjer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/opinion\/prof-no-one-is-reading-you\">If\u00f8lge en studie<\/a>blir publiserte artikler i gjennomsnitt lest av 10 personer. Og det er ikke alt. 82% av de publiserte artiklene siteres ikke en gang - og av de som siteres, blir bare 20% lest.<\/p>\n<p>Kan du forestille deg at du har lagt ned s\u00e5 mye arbeid i \u00e5 publisere en artikkel uten \u00e5 f\u00e5 den lest av andre enn forfatterne, fagfellevurdererne og tidsskriftets redakt\u00f8rer?<br \/>\nDet er de fleste avisers skjebne.<\/p>\n<p>S\u00e5 hvorfor m\u00e5ler vi suksess i vitenskapen etter antall artikler vi publiserer?<\/p>\n<p>Kan du tenke deg at vi m\u00e5ler suksess p\u00e5 en annen m\u00e5te? For eksempel ville vi trenge en mye enklere m\u00e5te \u00e5 forklare studiene v\u00e5re p\u00e5. Forskere ville v\u00e6re interessert i - ikke bare \u00e5 publisere funnene sine - men ogs\u00e5 \u00e5 s\u00f8rge for at de er enkle \u00e5 forst\u00e5.<\/p>\n<p>If we take a look at how journals are communicating, we can see that some of them are already changing their publishing instructions. Nowadays we find journals requesting better figures\/plots and even graphical abstracts.<\/p>\n<p>Kanskje er det p\u00e5 tide \u00e5 tenke litt annerledes om hvorfor og til hvem vi publiserer funnene v\u00e5re.
