Avspilling av nevral aktivitet ser ut til \u00e5 v\u00e6re grunnlaget for flere former for hukommelse.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Cohens team registrerte hjerneb\u00f8lger fra 33 friske, h\u00f8yrehendte deltakere mens de testet en kode med venstre h\u00e5nd ved hjelp av en sv\u00e6rt f\u00f8lsom skanning som kalles magnetencefalografi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fors\u00f8kspersonene fikk sifrene 41234, som ble vist p\u00e5 en skjerm i 10 sekunder, og ble bedt om \u00e5 skrive ned koden s\u00e5 mange ganger de klarte i 10 sekunder, etterfulgt av en pause p\u00e5 10 sekunder. De gjentok prosessen 35 ganger, og vekslet mellom \u00e5 \u00f8ve og hvile.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Etter dette eksperimentet fant de ut at fors\u00f8kspersonens evne til \u00e5 skrive koden riktig ble kraftig forbedret, for s\u00e5 \u00e5 flate ut etter det 11. fors\u00f8ket.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ved hjelp av et spesielt dataprogram utviklet av teamet, kunne de finne ut hvordan hjernen behandler hvert av testtallene.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En mye raskere versjon av hjerneaktiviteten under skrivingen ble gjenspeilet i pausene, slik programmet viste; den var omtrent 20 ganger raskere enn under skrivingen.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Etter at eksperimentene var avsluttet, skjedde det en to- til tredobling av aktiviteten. Hyppigere avspillinger resulterte i raskere prestasjonshopp enn mindre hyppige avspillinger i hjernen til fors\u00f8kspersonene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I alle de v\u00e5kne hvileperiodene som ble unders\u00f8kt, var det nevrale repetisjoner av hele den trente sekvensen. Derimot var det en forskjell i deteksjonshastigheten avhengig av varigheten av avspillingen.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Funnene i studien viste at avspillingsaktiviteten oftest var lokalisert i hjernens sensomotoriske regioner, den delen av hjernen som regulerer bevegelse. Ogs\u00e5 hippocampus og entorhinal cortex spiller en rolle i avspillingen av minner.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Resultatene viser at det finnes hippocampus-neokortikale repetisjoner som bidrar til rask konsolidering av ferdigheter i v\u00e5ken tilstand. Dette var det mest overraskende elementet i studien.
