Jo tykkere isen er, desto mer varmeisolerende er den, noe som forhindrer at temperaturen p\u00e5 havoverflaten stiger om vinteren og beskytter mot varme om sommeren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Det er ogs\u00e5 mindre sannsynlig at den arktiske sommersmeltingen opprettholdes av tynnere is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forskere har derfor evaluert resultatene fra et nyutviklet dataprogram som skal estimere forskjellen i sn\u00f8dybde fra \u00e5r til \u00e5r, og identifisert <strong>tynning av havisen<\/strong> akselererte mye mer enn forventet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>Studiens form\u00e5l og m\u00e5l<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Siden havisdekket modererer luft-vann-utvekslingen og varmeoverf\u00f8ringen mellom havene og atmosf\u00e6ren, har det betydning for regionale \u00f8kosystemer, vindm\u00f8nstre p\u00e5 halvkulen og det globale klimaet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Med tykkere havis \u00f8ker den termiske isolasjonen, slik at temperaturene holder seg lavere om vinteren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Det er ogs\u00e5 tykkelsen p\u00e5 havisen under sn\u00f8akkumulasjonen som bestemmer havisens dybde under vannoverflaten, noe som bidrar vesentlig til den termodynamiske veksten av havisen.
