Le prix Nobel 2015 de m\u00e9decine a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9cern\u00e9 \u00e0 trois scientifiques qui ont \u00e9tudi\u00e9 les traitements des maladies n\u00e9glig\u00e9es, telles que le paludisme et les infections caus\u00e9es par des vers parasites.<\/p>\n

Le prix Nobel 2015 ne sera pas distribu\u00e9 de mani\u00e8re \u00e9gale : le chercheur chinois Youyou Tu en gardera la moiti\u00e9, tandis que William C. Campbell et Satoshi Omura se partageront l'autre moiti\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Youyou Tu a eu une vie tr\u00e8s int\u00e9ressante. Travaillant en secret pour le gouvernement chinois, elle a d\u00fb laisser sa fille de 4 ans \u00e0 P\u00e9kin et s'est rendue dans la province de Hainan, o\u00f9 elle et son groupe ont \u00e9tudi\u00e9 plus de 2 000 rem\u00e8des chinois. Une recette vieille de 1 600 ans contenait l'indice du m\u00e9dicament art\u00e9misinine. Elle \u00e9tait tomb\u00e9e dans l'oubli malgr\u00e9 l'ampleur de sa d\u00e9couverte d'un nouveau m\u00e9dicament qui a permis de r\u00e9duire les taux de mortalit\u00e9 dus au paludisme dans les pays tropicaux. Des millions de vies ont \u00e9t\u00e9 sauv\u00e9es par l'art\u00e9misinine.\"Prix<\/a><\/p>\n

Outre le paludisme, la filariose lymphatique (\u00e9l\u00e9phantiasis) et d'autres maladies caus\u00e9es par des vers parasites touchent des millions de personnes dans le monde. Les deux chercheurs laur\u00e9ats du prix Nobel, Omura et Campbell, ont travaill\u00e9 \u00e0 la d\u00e9couverte et au d\u00e9veloppement de l'ivermectine, une nouvelle classe de m\u00e9dicaments contre l'infection par les vers.<\/p>\n

La nomination de ces trois scientifiques apporte une lumi\u00e8re bienvenue \u00e0 un probl\u00e8me tr\u00e8s ancien : les maladies n\u00e9glig\u00e9es. Un fardeau que l'humanit\u00e9 porte depuis trop longtemps.<\/p>\n
