Plus la glace est \u00e9paisse, plus elle agit comme un isolant thermique, emp\u00eachant les temp\u00e9ratures de surface de l'oc\u00e9an d'augmenter en hiver et offrant une protection contre la chaleur en \u00e9t\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La fonte estivale de l'Arctique est \u00e9galement moins susceptible d'\u00eatre soutenue par une glace plus mince.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les chercheurs ont donc \u00e9valu\u00e9 les r\u00e9sultats d'un nouveau programme informatique destin\u00e9 \u00e0 estimer la diff\u00e9rence d'\u00e9paisseur de neige annuelle et ont identifi\u00e9 <strong>l'amincissement de la glace de mer<\/strong> s'est acc\u00e9l\u00e9r\u00e9 beaucoup plus que pr\u00e9vu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>But et objectifs de l'\u00e9tude<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Comme la couverture de glace de mer mod\u00e8re les \u00e9changes air-eau et le transfert de chaleur entre les oc\u00e9ans et l'atmosph\u00e8re, elle a des r\u00e9percussions sur les \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes r\u00e9gionaux, la configuration des vents h\u00e9misph\u00e9riques et le climat mondial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L'isolation thermique est accrue par l'\u00e9paisseur de la glace de mer, de sorte que les temp\u00e9ratures restent plus basses en hiver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>C'est \u00e9galement l'\u00e9paisseur de la glace de mer pendant l'accumulation de neige qui d\u00e9termine la profondeur de la glace de mer sous la surface de l'eau, contribuant ainsi de mani\u00e8re substantielle \u00e0 la croissance thermodynamique de la glace de mer. Plusieurs esp\u00e8ces d'animaux des r\u00e9gions polaires ont \u00e9galement perdu leur habitat en raison de cette fonte.
