El trabajo <strong>Restauraci\u00f3n de la circulaci\u00f3n cerebral y de las funciones celulares horas despu\u00e9s de la muerte<\/strong> explica el experimento realizado con cerebros de cerdo, que puede aportar luz a la investigaci\u00f3n sobre el da\u00f1o cerebral. La revista Nature\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41586-019-1099-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">publicado <\/a>el peri\u00f3dico el 17 de abril.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-item__title serif\"><em>\"Durante la mayor parte de la historia de la humanidad, la muerte era muy sencilla\".<\/em> dice Christof Koch. Es el presidente y cient\u00edfico jefe del Instituto Allen para la Ciencia del Cerebro, en Seattle (Washington). \"<em>Ahora, tenemos que cuestionar lo que es irreversible\".\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">No hay comunicaci\u00f3n entre las neuronas de estos cerebros, as\u00ed que no hab\u00eda conciencia. Pero las c\u00e9lulas estaban vivas, y eso ya es un gran descubrimiento.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\"Anteriormente, los hallazgos han demostrado que en b\u00e1sicamente minutos, las c\u00e9lulas sufren un proceso de muerte celular\".<\/em>\u00a0dijo Nenad Sestan, el neurocient\u00edfico de Yale que dirigi\u00f3 la investigaci\u00f3n, durante una conferencia de prensa. <em>\"Lo que estamos demostrando es que el proceso de muerte celular es un proceso gradual por etapas, y algunos de esos procesos pueden posponerse, preservarse o incluso revertirse\".<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>El experimento del da\u00f1o cerebral<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Seg\u00fan la revista Nature, los investigadores comprobaron el estado de los cerebros durante un periodo de seis horas. Comprobaron que las neuronas y otras c\u00e9lulas cerebrales hab\u00edan reiniciado las funciones metab\u00f3licas normales, como el consumo de az\u00facar y la producci\u00f3n de di\u00f3xido de carbono. Adem\u00e1s, el sistema inmunitario de los cerebros parec\u00eda funcionar. Las estructuras de las c\u00e9lulas individuales y las secciones del cerebro se conservaron. En cambio, las c\u00e9lulas de los cerebros de control, que no recibieron la soluci\u00f3n rica en nutrientes y ox\u00edgeno, se colapsaron. Y cuando los cient\u00edficos aplicaron electricidad a muestras de tejido de los cerebros tratados, descubrieron que las neuronas individuales a\u00fan pod\u00edan transmitir una se\u00f1al.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Los cient\u00edficos crearon un sistema llamado BrainEx, especialmente dise\u00f1ado para atenuar algunos de los procesos responsables de la degradaci\u00f3n del tejido en los cerebros postmortem. El sistema consiste en bombear una soluci\u00f3n llamada perfusato BEx. La soluci\u00f3n es una mezcla patentada de agentes protectores, estabilizadores y de contraste, que act\u00faa como sustituto de la sangre. El perfusato tambi\u00e9n contiene sustancias qu\u00edmicas que detienen la oxidaci\u00f3n del tejido corporal, lo que frena la apoptosis. Tambi\u00e9n contiene un bloqueador de la actividad neural, cuyo prop\u00f3sito es doble. Tras optimizar la tecnolog\u00eda, el equipo conect\u00f3 32 cerebros de cerdo al sistema BrainEx. Hicieron la conexi\u00f3n 4 horas despu\u00e9s de matar a los cerdos y tras extraer los cerebros de los cr\u00e1neos.
