Las personas con esquizofrenia pueden parecer que han perdido el contacto con la realidad. Para entender el desarrollo de la esquizofrenia, tenemos que hablar de la poda sin\u00e1ptica. Seg\u00fan un art\u00edculo de Nature neuroscience <sup>1<\/sup>, &#8220;<em>La poda sin\u00e1ptica es el proceso de eliminaci\u00f3n de las sinapsis que se produce durante la primera infancia hasta el inicio de la edad adulta\".<\/em>&nbsp;A medida que el cerebro se desarrolla, las aportaciones del entorno dan forma a los circuitos neuronales. Este proceso elimina el exceso de sinapsis generado durante el desarrollo temprano y refuerza las sinapsis restantes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adem\u00e1s, seg\u00fan la hip\u00f3tesis de la \"poda sin\u00e1ptica\", la poda sin\u00e1ptica excesiva o desordenada est\u00e1 relacionada con el trastorno de la esquizofrenia. Seg\u00fan Carl Sellgren, Roy Perlis y sus colaboradores, el sistema inmunitario podr\u00eda desempe\u00f1ar un papel en la poda sin\u00e1ptica excesiva. Su nuevo trabajo<sup>1<\/sup> publicado en Nature neuroscience describe un modelo in vitro que aplica la reprogramaci\u00f3n celular para estudiar el engullimiento de sinapsis mediado por la microgl\u00eda de pacientes con esquizofrenia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La microgl\u00eda es un tipo colectivo de neurogl\u00eda (c\u00e9lula glial) situada en todo el cerebro y la m\u00e9dula espinal. Constituyen el 10-15% de todas las c\u00e9lulas que se encuentran en el cerebro. Como c\u00e9lulas macr\u00f3fagas residentes, act\u00faan como la primera y principal forma de defensa inmunitaria activa en el sistema nervioso central (SNC).
