Da sie im Geheimen f\u00fcr die chinesische Regierung arbeitete, musste sie ihre vierj\u00e4hrige Tochter in Peking zur\u00fccklassen und ging in die Provinz Hainan, wo sie und ihre Gruppe mehr als 2.000 chinesische Heilmittel untersuchten. Ein 1.600 Jahre altes Rezept enthielt den Hinweis auf das Medikament Artemisinin. Trotz der Bedeutung ihrer Entdeckung eines neuen Medikaments, das die Malaria-Sterblichkeitsrate in tropischen L\u00e4ndern senkte, war sie in Vergessenheit geraten. Die beiden mit dem Nobelpreis ausgezeichneten Forscher Omura und Campbell waren an der Entdeckung und Entwicklung von Ivermectin, einer neuen Klasse von Medikamenten gegen Wurminfektionen, beteiligt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Die Ernennung dieser drei Wissenschaftler ist ein willkommener Lichtblick f\u00fcr ein sehr altes Problem: vernachl\u00e4ssigte Krankheiten.
