Det er vigtigt at forst\u00e5 sygdomsmekanismen for at forbedre patienternes livskvalitet og finde en effektiv behandling. P\u00e5 trods af en enorm indsats inden for den akademiske verden og medicinalindustrien er der i dag ingen effektive behandlinger til r\u00e5dighed. Alzheimers er den sjette hyppigste d\u00f8ds\u00e5rsag i USA og rammer 35 millioner mennesker over hele verden.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Infografik om Alzheimers sygdom<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">St\u00f8rstedelen af AD-patienterne er \u00e6ldre mennesker, som ofte lider af en r\u00e6kke komorbiditeter. Tau kommer ikke ind i neuronets kerne, hvilket resulterer i DNA-skader. Der er en reduktion i antallet af mitokondrier og ogs\u00e5 i antallet af pr\u00e6synaptiske vesikler, hvilket f\u00f8rer til synaptisk tab. Dette tab skyldes ogs\u00e5, at tau tr\u00e6nger ind i dendritter og postsynaptiske omr\u00e5der.
