Nobelprisen i medicin 2015 blev tildelt tre forskere, der har unders\u00f8gt behandlinger for oversete sygdomme som malaria og infektioner for\u00e5rsaget af parasit\u00e6re orme.<\/p>\n

Nobelprisen 2015 bliver ikke ligeligt fordelt: Den kinesiske forsker Youyou Tu beholder halvdelen, og William C. Campbell og Satoshi Omura deler den anden halvdel.<\/p>\n

Youyou Tu har et meget interessant liv. Hun arbejdede i hemmelighed for den kinesiske regering, m\u00e5tte efterlade sin 4-\u00e5rige datter i Beijing og tog til Hainan-provinsen, hvor hun og hendes gruppe unders\u00f8gte mere end 2.000 kinesiske remedier. En 1.600 \u00e5r gammel opskrift havde ledetr\u00e5den til l\u00e6gemidlet artemisinin. Hun var g\u00e5et i glemmebogen p\u00e5 trods af, at hun havde opdaget et nyt l\u00e6gemiddel, der reducerede d\u00f8deligheden af malaria i tropiske lande. Ud over malaria rammer lymfatisk filariasis (elefantiasis) og andre parasit\u00e6re ormesygdomme millioner af mennesker verden over, og de to nobelprismodtagere, Omura og Campbell, arbejdede med opdagelsen og udviklingen af ivermectin, en ny klasse af l\u00e6gemidler mod ormeinfektion.<\/p>\n

Udn\u00e6vnelsen af disse tre forskere er et k\u00e6rkomment lys p\u00e5 et meget gammelt problem: oversete sygdomme. En byrde, menneskeheden har b\u00e5ret alt for l\u00e6nge.<\/p>\n
