En gruppe fra School of Pharmacy under ledelse af Claudia Figueiredo (2019) har unders\u00f8gt, hvordan zikavirus replikeres i hjernev\u00e6v fra voksne mennesker og forringer synapser og hukommelse hos mus. Zikavirus er en arbovirus, der tilh\u00f8rer Flaviviridae-familien, som er ansvarlig for et nyligt stort udbrud i Latinamerika. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

ZIKV er blevet fundet i hjernen og CSF hos voksne patienter. NS2B-immunreaktivitet kolokaliseres med NeuN-immunreaktive celler, men ikke med GFAP eller F4\/80, hvilket indikerer, at neuroner er m\u00e5l for ZikV i det modne humane v\u00e6v. Hos voksne immunkompetente mus, der er inficeret med intracerebroventrikul\u00e6r infusion af ZIKV, p\u00e5vises h\u00f8je niveauer af ZikV-RNA i frontal cortex og hippocampus, og modne neuroner er den vigtigste celletype, der inficeres. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Konklusionerne synes at bakke op om, hvad man tidligere vidste om dette emne: \"ZIKV er rettet mod hukommelsesrelaterede hjerneomr\u00e5der, uanset om infektionsvejen er central eller perifer. Virussen er blevet p\u00e5vist i CSF hos voksne patienter med neurologiske komplikationer,\" h\u00e6vdede Figueiredo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
