Der blev fundet syv karetteskildpadder p\u00e5 begge kyster, s\u00e5 stikpr\u00f8vest\u00f8rrelsen var minimal.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Der blev ikke fundet plastik i nogen af de karetteskildpadder, der blev fundet p\u00e5 nogen af kysterne. Stillehavsskildpadderne var typisk fyldt med fragmenter af h\u00e5rd plast, sandsynligvis fra en lang r\u00e6kke menneskeskabte genstande, i mods\u00e6tning til plast fra Det Indiske Ocean, som prim\u00e6rt var fibre fra fiskenet eller reb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Begge oceaner indeholdt h\u00f8je koncentrationer af polyethylen, nylon og polypropylen, som skildpadderne indtog.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Det er ikke muligt at finde frem til kilden til de fundne fragmenter, da disse polymerer er s\u00e5 udbredte i plastprodukter.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En v\u00e6sentlig kilde til havforurening n\u00e6r vandet kommer fra kasserede, afmonterede og p\u00e5 anden m\u00e5de \u00f8delagte fiskeredskaber (ALDFG), som almindeligvis best\u00e5r af plastfibre. Partiklernes st\u00f8rrelse varierede med skildpaddernes st\u00f8rrelse, normalt mellem 5 mm og 10 mm.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forskerne h\u00e5ber at kunne unders\u00f8ge, hvordan indtagelse af plastik p\u00e5virker skildpaddernes helbred og overlevelse i n\u00e6ste fase af deres forskning.
