I unders\u00f8gelsen sagde deltagere, der rapporterede at have depression eller angst, f\u00f8r de indtog ayahuasca, at de efter oplevelsen bem\u00e6rkede en vis grad af forbedring af deres symptomer. Dermed forbedrede de deres livskvalitet.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patientrapporter som denne, der er indsamlet af GAP, er blevet flere og flere i de seneste \u00e5r.  Selvom det er gode nyheder, har forskere og l\u00e6ger brug for mere komplette og detaljerede fysiologiske unders\u00f8gelser for at forst\u00e5 kilden til disse Ayahuasca-fordele. Drikken fra infusionsplanten indeholder flere stoffer, og hvert af dem kan udl\u00f8se forskellige typer reaktioner i menneskekroppen.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Blandt disse stoffer er DMT et af dem. Det involverer ogs\u00e5 mange forskellige cellul\u00e6re aktiviteter, herunder proliferation, migration og differentiering af celler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I tur og orden, <strong>neurale stamceller<\/strong> er i stand til omfattende selvfornyelse og genererer nye celler i nervesystemet, for eksempel neuroner eller gliaceller. I vores hjerne er der en niche af neurale stamceller, som befinder sig i <strong>subgranul\u00e6r zone<\/strong> af gyrus dentatus i hippocampus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hippocampus er den del af hjernen, der er ansvarlig for vores hukommelse og indl\u00e6ringsevne. Dette hjerneomr\u00e5de er en del af det limbiske system og har en vigtig rolle i at omdanne korttidshukommelse til langtidshukommelse.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ved neurodegenerative sygdomme, s\u00e5som Alzheimers, er hippocampus den f\u00f8rste region, der lider, hvilket f\u00f8rer til hukommelsestab.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Hvordan p\u00e5virker DMT hjernen?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I et stykke tid troede man, at DMT kun bandt til serotoninreceptorerne 5-HT, som giver de hallucinerende effekter. Nyere unders\u00f8gelser viser imidlertid, at DMT ogs\u00e5 binder sig til en anden receptortype, en ikke-serotonerg receptor ved navn <strong>sigma-1-receptor<\/strong> eller <strong>S1R<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Denne receptor er udbredt i centralnervesystemet, is\u00e6r i den pr\u00e6frontale cortex og hippocampus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Desuden opdagede forskerne, at DMT mister sin psykoaktive effekt, n\u00e5r det bindes til S1R-receptoren, og at det ikke giver hallucinationer eller \u00e6ndringer i opfattelsen.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Forskning in vitro og in vivo<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>En unders\u00f8gelse offentliggjort i <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41398-020-01011-0\">Translational Psychiatry Journal<\/a> i 2020, var fokuseret p\u00e5 at studere DMT's virkninger i hjernen gennem sigma-1-receptoren.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ved hj\u00e6lp af 5-HT-antagonister observerede forskerne, at DMT stimulerer neurogenese gennem S1R.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Derudover viste data, at DMT ikke kun virker som et stimulerende middel, der f\u00e5r neurale stamceller til at modnes, spredes og migrere in vitro, men ogs\u00e5 \u00f8ger indl\u00e6rings- og hukommelsesevnen in vivo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In vitro rapporterede forfatterne til unders\u00f8gelsen, at DMT fremmede proliferationen af neurale progenitorceller fra hippocampus voksne neurogene niche. Denne virkning \u00f8gede antallet og st\u00f8rrelsen af <strong>Neurosf\u00e6rer<\/strong> efter en uges behandling med DMT.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Baseret p\u00e5 udtrykket af specifikke proteiner bem\u00e6rkede forskerne desuden, at DMT fremmede differentieringen af disse neurale stamceller.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proteiner, der udelukkende findes i unge og i modne neuroner, kaldet \u03b2-III-tubulin og MAP-2, havde deres udtryk \u00f8get i neurosf\u00e6rerne behandlet med DMT. Det betyder, at DMT fremmer differentieringen til den neuronale f\u00e6notype.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forskerne bem\u00e6rkede ogs\u00e5, at S1R fremmer andre cellef\u00e6notyper, s\u00e5som astrocytter og oligodendrocytter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In vivo s\u00e5 DMT ud til at aktivere den subgranul\u00e6re zone-niche gennem S1R.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Voksne mus behandlet med DMT havde \"\u00f8get proliferation og migration af neurale forstadier i den subgranul\u00e6re zone\", if\u00f8lge artiklen. Dette resultat tyder p\u00e5, at DMT har en modellerende effekt p\u00e5 neurogenesen i hippocampus og \u00f8ger antallet af nye neuroner.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I praksis viste voksne mus, der blev behandlet med DMT, bedre resultater i adf\u00e6rdsopgaver sammenlignet med dem, der ikke blev behandlet.
