Zkoumal jeho pozitivn\u00ed antibakteri\u00e1ln\u00ed \u00fa\u010dinek na mnoho organism\u016f a v\u0161iml si, \u017ee p\u016fsob\u00ed na bakterie, jako jsou stafylokoky a mnoho dal\u0161\u00edch grampozitivn\u00edch patogen\u016f, kter\u00e9 zp\u016fsobuj\u00ed sp\u00e1lu, z\u00e1pal plic, meningitidu a z\u00e1\u0161krt, ale ne b\u0159i\u0161n\u00ed tyfus nebo paratyfus, kter\u00e9 jsou zp\u016fsobeny gramnegativn\u00edmi bakteriemi, na kter\u00e9 v t\u00e9 dob\u011b hledal l\u00e9k. P\u016fsobil tak\u00e9 na Neisseria gonorrhoeae, kter\u00e1 zp\u016fsobuje kapavku, a\u010dkoli tato bakterie je gramnegativn\u00ed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fleming sv\u016fj objev publikoval v roce 1929 v \u010dasopise British Journal of Experimental Pathology, ale jeho \u010dl\u00e1nku byla v\u011bnov\u00e1na jen mal\u00e1 pozornost. Pozd\u011bji se stal slavn\u00fdm, proto\u017ee penicilin byl ve velk\u00e9 m\u00ed\u0159e pou\u017e\u00edv\u00e1n b\u011bhem druh\u00e9 sv\u011btov\u00e9 v\u00e1lky a zachr\u00e1nil h\u0159ivny voj\u00e1k\u016f.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
